![]() ![]() There are a wide variety of opinions about how the original macOS was developed and where the underlying ideas originated. Starting with Mac OS X, the system is a Unix variant that retains many elements of previous versions in its graphical interface. Its development will expand in a progressive model up to 9 versions of the system released in 1999. This was the basis of the classic version, which was developed entirely by Apple and its first version was released in 1984. The original macOS development team included Bill Atkinson, Jef Raskin, and Andy Hertzfeld. Apple intentionally reduced the presence of the operating system in the early years of the Macintosh line, trying to make the machine more user-friendly and differentiated it from other contemporary systems such as MS-DOS, which was a technical challenge.
